Tell us about Lottie McQuade  - Cornell School Schoolmarm
Greetings! My name is Lottie McQuade. My first name is really Charlotte, but, I like Lottie much better. In this year of 1886 I am 24 years old. I was born in Newark, Ohio in 1862.

I actually started teaching at Cornell School when I was 18 years old. At that time I was single because the School Board would not hire me if I had been married.

However, in 1882 when Mr. Joseph Cornell and I got “hitched” (that is an old-fashioned term that means married) I was not allowed to teach anymore. Nevertheless, one year when the School Board was not able to find a teacher for Cornell School, they decided to allow Mrs. Lottie Cornell, (that would be me) to become the schoolmarm again.
