Johnny Appleseed
Johnny's real name was John Chapman. He was born in Leominster, Massachusetts on September 26, 1774 and died on February 18, 1845.
He was an American pioneer nurseryman who introduced apples to large parts of Ohio. He became an American legend while still alive, largely because of his kind and generous ways, his great leadership in conservation, and the symbolic importance of apples. He encouraged the pioneers to plant apple seeds so that they would have a wonderful orchard with their very own fruit. |
